The Tradition of Holiday Gift-Giving
Gifts are an excuse to celebrate any important event in our lives. The tradition of holiday gift-giving has been around for a long time because, although gifts are material objects, the message they convey is one of love.
What gifts do we want? Some people would rather receive money so they can buy what they want themselves, but most prefer to receive gifts. This means that most of us appreciate receiving a special gift carefully chosen for us—and, of course, the suspense and pleasure of unwrapping something beautifully packaged.
If you find it difficult to choose the perfect gift, you should bear in mind that women prefer to receive clothes and beauty products, while men are most excited by technology.
Does an eco-friendly lifestyle change our perception of gifts?
On average, 2 out of 10 people consider the environmental impact of gifts important and are more selective when buying them.
For most people, finding the perfect gift does not discourage them from buying it, regardless of whether it may have a negative impact on the environment. More than 50% choose gifts that require batteries, excessively packaged gifts, and so on. 30 % of people never consider that their gift may be unwanted or even wasted.
How to Give Gifts Sustainably
For those who value the tradition of gift-giving but also want to consider the environmental impact, we have prepared some useful tips to help reduce your carbon footprint without giving up the joy of giving gifts.
Wrapping paper: When choosing wrapping paper, bear in mind that very glossy papers are usually not recyclable. The same applies to metallic, glittery or embossed papers, so try to choose recyclable wrapping paper. Kraft Paper Roll available from the Inatech Packaging online store is the ideal solution for wrapping gifts in an eco-friendly way.
Boxes: Many gift boxes are not recyclable because of the materials from which they are made. As long as you have a choice, you can easily say no to the excessive packaging used by most shops and make sure that the gifts you give are packaged in a more eco-friendly way. Simple cardboard boxes, as well as Emba-FLex® and Emba-Quick® boxes, which are economical, eco-friendly and reusable, are available from the Inatech Packaging online store.
Bags: Just as with wrapping paper and boxes, the material from which they are made is very important. The gift bag for the winter holidays is made from natural paper, printed with winter holiday and Christmas motifs, and is the perfect low-cost packaging solution with a striking visual impact, especially during the festive season.
Adhesive tape: Packaging adhesive tape with acrylic adhesive is a good option when you take the environment into account. It is an eco-friendly product with a very good performance level, making it a safer and more cost-effective choice. This tape does not require additional safety measures, as solvent-based adhesive tapes do, and is resistant to ageing. It can be stored and used for long periods without losing its properties.
Reusing packaging: Every year, we receive gifts for various occasions. Some packaging, such as paper, boxes or bags, can be reused to save money.
Today, sustainable development and environmental protection are essential aspects of the society we live in. The INATECH Group respects the environment in which we live by implementing a responsible waste management policy that enables recycling and reconditioning.
