Storage Boxes: Plastic vs Cardboard

Storage boxes: plastic vs cardboard? This choice depends on how you want to store or ship your products, as well as the type of products involved. The purpose of this article is to explain why there are different types of storage boxes (made of cardboard and plastic), as well as why they are made from different materials.

The difference between cardboard and plastic storage boxes

Choosing the material from which a storage box is made may simply come down to personal preference. First of all, cardboard boxes are durable, very easy to label, extremely cost-effective and, last but not least, RECYCLABLE. On the other hand, plastic storage boxes offer greater durability, water resistance and REUSABILITY. So how can you choose?

Cardboard boxes vs plastic boxes

You can make your decision based on what you want to do with these boxes, both while you are using them and after you no longer need them. Whichever option you choose, both cardboard and plastic boxes are environmentally friendly.

To begin with, we will discuss cardboard boxes with lids. These offer limited protection for the products stored inside them, but they can be safely stacked. They are also easy to label and extremely cost-effective.

Cardboard storage boxes cover a wide range of uses. They can have various sizes and shapes, as well as different opening and closing systems, making them suitable for almost any storage or transport purpose. Boxes can be long, flat, designed for pallets, transport or special applications. There are also customizable, adjustable and telescopic boxes, designed to meet users’ needs and providing the ideal solution for storage, packaging and transport.

You can also use cardboard boxes to store or ship documents, or you can use special archive boxes and archive containers, which provide easier access to documents through their openings. There are also standard cardboard boxes CO3 and CO5 in different sizes, supplied by Inatech Packaging.

Although cardboard boxes are extremely cost-effective, they are limited in terms of strength and are not waterproof. This is why plastic boxes are used for certain storage and transport methods.

Plastic storage boxes with lids are considerably more expensive, but they also offer advantages that cardboard boxes do not. First of all, plastic boxes and plastic containers are much more durable and can be stacked much higher. They can also store considerably heavier products.

A second advantage is water resistance, which is actually their main benefit, making them ideal for protecting products against moisture or any other type of environmental contamination. This is why plastic storage boxes can be used both to store and transport items that need to be protected and sealed. Unused plastic boxes with lids can be nested inside one another to save space.

Plastic storage boxes are highly resistant to impact, water and other environmental factors, and are used for demanding storage and transport applications. They provide reliable protection for a wide range of goods. As they are impact-resistant, they are ideal for storing fragile products, stationery and other goods. Another advantage is that they can be reused as often as necessary.

However, plastic containers are not suitable for every application. Although they are ideal for storage and transport, they are far too expensive for delivering a single product. Some companies nevertheless use a system that allows them to be recovered and returned, eliminating this financial concern. Although plastic boxes are less environmentally friendly than cardboard boxes, they can be reused countless times, resulting in a lower environmental impact.

Conclusions

1. If storage is long-term or involves products used repeatedly, plastic boxes are a good choice.

2. For straightforward transport, cardboard boxes provide protection at a minimal cost.

3. The choice of storage box depends on what you want to store, transport or archive.
